Thousands of Venmo users reported experiencing login issues on Thursday afternoon, with many unable to access the app.
According to Downdetector, which tracks real-time online outages, at least 2,700 users reported problems.
The issue appeared to primarily affect app users rather than those using Venmo via a browser.
Over 83 million people use Venmo.
According to Downdetector, 68% of reported issues were related to the app, 24% involved login problems, and 8% were linked to the website.
While replying to a user’s post on X complaining about the app, the company replied:
Hi There! Thank you for contacting Venmo. We understand your concern regarding issue with your Venmo account. Kindly reach out to our customer support team. Please use the link to contact Venmo support.

Users frustration mounts
Users took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustrations, with one person comparing the outage to a “nightmare.”
Another user wrote, “Every part of the app just gives a spinning wheel of death. Like, literally, no one wants to buy f—g crypto on your app. We just wanted to send money.”
Another user on X said: “Yes Venmo customer support is non existent and the CEO should go.”
“Venmo after you fix this, I am deleting you. It’s happened too many times pal,” another user posted on X.
This isn’t the first time Venmo has faced such issues. The app experienced a similar outage in November, which left users frustrated over its vague error message: “You caught us in a bad state.”
So far, Venmo has not provided an official explanation for the latest outage or a timeline for when services will be restored.
However, the app’s support page has advised users to check for updates and avoid making multiple transaction attempts.
What can Venmo users do?
For those needing to make urgent payments, PayPal, which owns Venmo, could serve as an alternative.
Users with a PayPal account can link it to Venmo to complete transactions. Those without an account can create one relatively quickly.
Venmo remains one of the most popular mobile payment apps among millennials and Gen Z, offering direct connections to debit/credit cards and bank accounts.
It is often seen as a safer alternative to Zelle, which requires both parties to have a Chase account to use the service.
