Alphabet Inc.’s Google on Wednesday announced the rollout of a more efficient and affordable version of its most advanced artificial intelligence system, extending the reach of its Gemini 3 model across consumer and enterprise products.

The company said it is releasing Gemini 3 Flash, a lower-cost version of its flagship model designed to handle more complex queries at greater speed.

Gemini 3 Flash will replace Gemini 2.5 Flash in the Gemini app and will also become the default system powering AI Mode in Google Search.

The move builds on Google’s recent momentum in artificial intelligence following the launch of Gemini 3 Pro last month, which drew strong reviews and helped reassert the company’s position in the AI race.

Bringing Gemini 3 to a wider audience

“A few weeks ago, we released Pro, and we are excited about the reception,” said Tulsee Doshi, senior director of product management for Gemini at Google DeepMind.

With Gemini 3 Flash, she said, “We bring the model to everyone.”

According to Google, the Flash line has historically been its most widely used.

The company said Gemini 2 and 2.5 Flash models already process trillions of tokens across hundreds of thousands of applications built by millions of developers.

“Flash remains our most popular version,” Google said in its announcement, adding that Gemini 3 Flash is designed so developers no longer need to compromise between speed and intelligence.

The company highlighted speed as a defining strength of the Flash series. Even at lower reasoning settings, Google said Gemini 3 Flash often outperforms earlier models operating at higher “thinking” levels.

In terms of pricing, Google said Gemini 3 Flash will cost $0.50 per million input tokens and $3 per million output tokens, with audio input priced at $1 per million input tokens.

Integration into Google Search and Gemini App

In Google Search, Gemini 3 Flash will power AI Mode, helping users handle more refined and multi-condition searches.

Robby Stein, vice president of product for Google Search, said the model can assist with more nuanced requests, such as finding suitable evening activities for parents with young children.

Google said Gemini 3 Pro will also be available within AI Mode in Search, alongside access to the premium version of its image generation tool, Nano Banana.

The Gemini app will likewise transition to Gemini 3 Flash as its default model, replacing Gemini 2.5 Flash.

Developer and enterprise rollout

Google said Gemini 3 Flash is rolling out to developers through the Gemini API via Google AI Studio, Google Antigravity, Gemini CLI and Android Studio.

Enterprise customers will be able to access the model through Vertex AI.

The company emphasised that Gemini 3 Flash is designed to deliver high-end performance while remaining cost-efficient.

According to Google, the model achieves “frontier-class performance” on advanced reasoning and knowledge benchmarks such as GPQA Diamond, where it scored 90.4%, and Humanity’s Last Exam, where it reached 33.7% without tools.

Google said Gemini 3 Flash outperforms Gemini 2.5 Pro while being three times faster, based on benchmarking from Artificial Analysis, and does so at a fraction of the cost.

AI chatbot race heats up

The release comes amid intensifying competition in artificial intelligence.

After the debut of Gemini 3 Pro, OpenAI declared a “code red” and released a new version of its flagship GPT-5 model along with an updated image generation system, underscoring the fast-moving nature of the AI arms race.

With Gemini 3 Flash, Google is signalling a strategy focused not only on cutting-edge capability, but also on efficiency and broad adoption, as it pushes advanced AI deeper into its core products and developer ecosystem.
