Google on Tuesday unveiled a high-end artificial intelligence subscription service, “Google AI Ultra,” designed for users seeking early access to the company’s most advanced AI tools and features.

Priced at $249.99 per month, the plan was announced at the company’s annual developer event, Google I/O.

“It’s for the trailblazers, the pioneers, those of you who want cutting-edge AI from Google,” said Josh Woodward, head of Google Labs and the Gemini app, during the event.

“You can think of this Ultra plan as your VIP pass for Google AI.”

What the Google AI Ultra subscription gets you

Google AI Ultra offers the highest usage limits across the company’s AI services, including 30 terabytes of storage and early access to experimental products.

Subscribers will also receive a YouTube Premium subscription.

The plan includes access to the Gemini AI app running the newly announced Gemini 2.5 Pro model in “DeepThink” mode, designed for intensive research tasks.

It also bundles tools like Flow, Google’s new AI-powered filmmaking assistant, and Notebook LM, a note-to-podcast tool offered with the highest usage limit.

Subscribers will also gain entry to Google’s more experimental efforts, including Project Mariner, an AI agent prototype capable of performing up to ten tasks simultaneously.

Early access to Veo 3, Google’s latest video generation model, is also part of the package.

The AI race

The move to introduce a top-tier AI subscription comes as Google looks to broaden its revenue beyond advertising and respond to growing competition in AI.

Alphabet’s core advertising business continues to grow, but at a slower pace, while users increasingly explore alternatives like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

OpenAI launched its own premium service, ChatGPT Pro, in December, charging $200 per month for expanded access to its best models and tools.

Google already offers premium tiers under its “Google One AI Premium” plan, which ranges from $19.99 to $149.99 depending on storage and features.

AI Ultra is the company’s most expensive offering to date.

Google said the Ultra plan is available in the US starting Tuesday, with a broader international rollout planned in the coming months.

Google’s AI plans

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, speaking at the conference, said the company continues to deliver “the best models at the most effective price point.”

He also revealed that the Gemini AI assistant app now has more than 400 million monthly active users.

Alphabet also announced that users across the US can now switch Google Search into “AI Mode.”

Originally introduced as an experimental feature in March, AI Mode replaces standard web listings with AI-generated responses for complex queries.

Pichai emphasized that the growth of generative AI is not coming at the cost of traditional online search.

“This feels very far from a zero-sum moment,” he said. “The kind of use cases we are serving in search is dramatically expanding” due to AI.
